The CSIR Technician Recruitment 2026 Notification was released on 18 August 2026 on the official websites recruitment.csir.res.in and www.csir.res.in. A total of 43 vacancies have been announced for the post of Technician (1), Group II under Advertisement No. R&A/01/2026.

Candidates with an upper age limit of 28 years who have completed SSC/10th with Science subjects (minimum 55% marks) along with an ITI certificate, apprentice training, or relevant work experience in the concerned trade are eligible to apply. The online application process began on 18 August 2026 at 10:00 AM and will remain open until 17 September 2026 at 5:00 PM.

CSIR Technician Recruitment 2026 Overview

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), established in 1942, is an autonomous body under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. It operates a network of 37 National Laboratories across the country. Through Advertisement No. R&A/01/2026, CSIR is inviting applications from suitably qualified, dynamic Indian citizens for direct recruitment to the post of Technician (1), Group II – categorised as support staff who assist scientific and technical staff.

CSIR Technician Vacancy 2026

CSIR has notified a total of 43 Technician (1) vacancies, provisional in number and subject to change. Of these, 04 posts are reserved for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) on a horizontal basis, and 02 posts are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) – one each under category “b” (Deaf & Hard of Hearing) and category “d&e” (Autism/Intellectual Disability/Specific Learning Disability/Mental Illness, and Multiple Disabilities).

Note: The number of vacancies indicated against each post/category is provisional and may increase or decrease at the time of selection.

CSIR Technician Eligibility Criteria

CSIR Technician Qualification

For every trade code (260101 to 260110), the essential qualification follows the same pattern – any one of the following:

  • SSC/10th standard or equivalent with Science subjects, minimum 55% marks, plus an ITI certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade; OR
  • SSC/10th standard or equivalent with Science subjects, minimum 55% marks, plus 2 years of full-time experience as an apprentice trainee from a recognised institution in the relevant trade; OR
  • SSC/10th standard or equivalent with Science subjects, minimum 55% marks, plus 3 years of work experience in the relevant trade in a Ministry/Department/Organization/Public Sector Undertaking/Autonomous Body under the Government of India/State/UT.

The relevant trade for each post code is: COPA (260101), Desktop Publishing Operator (260102), Computer Hardware & Network Maintenance (260103), Medical Lab Technician (260104), Draughtsman-Architecture (260105), Instrument Mechanic (260106), Draughtsman-Mechanical (260107), Draughtsman-Civil (260108), Laboratory Assistant in Chemical Plant (260109), and Interior Designer (260110). Educational qualifications must be from a recognised Board/Institution/University, with final results declared on or before the closing date.

CSIR Technician Age Limit

The upper age limit is 28 years as on the closing date for online applications (17/09/2026).

SC/ST/OBC candidates applying against unreserved (UR) vacancies are not eligible for age relaxation. Candidates covered under SC/ST/OBC who also qualify under ESM or PwBD are eligible for cumulative age relaxation under both categories.

Reservation

Reservation is available for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen categories as per extant Government of India/CSIR rules. Candidates must possess the requisite certificates in the prescribed format as on the closing date to claim reservation benefits.

CSIR Technician Salary

The Technician (1) post carries Group-C, Pay Matrix Level-2 pay of Rs. 19,900-63,200/-. In addition to basic pay, selected candidates receive Pay and Allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travelling Allowance at Central Government rates applicable to CSIR employees at the place of posting. Other benefits include Leave Travel Concession, reimbursement of medical expenses, and Children’s Education Allowance, as per CSIR rules. Accommodation may be provided as per CSIR Residence Allotment Rules, subject to availability (HRA is not admissible where accommodation is provided). New entrants are covered under the National Pension System (NPS). CSIR also offers career advancement opportunities under its Assessment Promotion Scheme for Technical & Support staff.

CSIR Technician Application Fee

The fee can be paid online through SBI Collect. Applications submitted without the prescribed fee, where exemption does not apply, will be summarily rejected. The fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other examination or recruitment process. Candidates applying for multiple post codes must pay the fee separately for each post code applied to.

CSIR Technician Selection Process

Selection for CSIR Technician (1) posts follows a multi-stage process:

  1. Applications received within the stipulated period are screened by a Screening Committee.
  2. Candidates recommended/shortlisted by the Screening Committee are invited for a Trade Test, which is qualifying in nature.
  3. Candidates who qualify the Trade Test appear for a competitive written examination comprising Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III.
  4. Minimum threshold marks for the Trade Test and each paper are fixed by the Selection Committee. Paper-II and Paper-III are evaluated only for candidates who clear the Paper-I threshold.
  5. The final merit list is prepared solely on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III.

CSIR Technician Exam Pattern

The syllabus for the Trade Test and Paper-III (Concerned Subject) will be notified separately on the official CSIR website. In case of a tie in aggregate marks, resolution follows a defined order of precedence: higher marks in the concerned subject/trade paper, fewer negative marks in the concerned subject/trade paper, fewer overall negative marks, older date of birth, earlier date of acquiring the essential degree, and finally alphabetical order of first names.

How to Apply for CSIR Technician Recruitment 2026

Eligible candidates must apply online – no other mode of application is accepted.

  1. Visit the website: Go to www.csir.res.in or recruitment.csir.res.in and access the link “Technician (1)” / “Technician – 2026”, preferably using Google Chrome.
  2. Register: Click “Apply Online” and register with your name, email address, and mobile number to receive a User ID and password.
  3. Complete your profile: Fill in Gender, Date of Birth, Marital Status, Category, PwBD status (if applicable), Ex-Serviceman status (if applicable), and Govt./CSIR employee status. Once verified and locked, these profile details cannot be changed.
  4. Fill the application form: The form has 6 tabs – Apply, Personal Details, Education, Experience, Additional Details, Uploads, and Preview & Submit.
  5. Upload documents: Scanned photograph (JPG, under 50 KB, 200×150 px), Live Photo Capture, signature (JPG, under 50 KB, 50×150 px), and PDF certificates (each under 1 MB) – proof of date of birth, educational qualifications (10th onwards), experience certificate, caste/disability certificate (if applicable), Discharge Book (if ESM), and NOC from present employer (if applicable).
  6. Pay the application fee: Applicable candidates pay Rs. 500/- online via SBI Collect and upload the e-Receipt/transaction receipt before the closing date.
  7. Preview and submit: Verify all details on the Preview page before final submission, as details cannot be edited afterward. Note the generated Application No. and take a printout for your records.

Candidates applying for multiple post codes must submit a separate application (with separate fee, where applicable) for each post code. e-Admit Cards/Roll Numbers will be issued for the Trade Test/Written Examination; no separate call letters will be posted, and all communications will be published on the CSIR website.
