A total of 20 vacancies for the post of Technician (1) have been announced across 6 trade areas – Electronics, Electrical, COPA, Multimedia, Digital Photography, and Mechanic Motor Vehicle. The basic pay is Rs. 19,900/- per month (Pay Level 2) with total emoluments of Rs. 44,428/- per month. The last date to receive the application form is 30th June 2026. How to Apply for CSIR NPL Technician Recruitment 2026

Applications for CSIR NPL Technician Recruitment 2026 must be submitted by post only. Follow the steps below:

  1. Download the prescribed application form from the CSIR-NPL official website www.nplindia.in.
  2. Fill in the application form carefully – enter your Name, Date of Birth, and Father’s/Mother’s name exactly as given in your SSC/Matriculation certificate.
  3. Paste a recent passport-size colour photograph on Part I of the application form and sign across it. Paste another recent photograph on Part II (do not sign across this one).
  4. Prepare a Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- drawn on any nationalised bank valid for at least 3 months, in favour of “Director, National Physical Laboratory”, payable at New Delhi. Write your name and post code on the back of the DD. (SC/ST/PwBD/Women/CSIR Employees/Transgender candidates are exempted from fee.)
  5. Attach self-attested copies of all required documents (see Documents Required section below).
  6. If you are a Government/CSIR/PSU employee, obtain an NOC/forwarding letter from your employer (Proforma-VII) and send a hard copy through proper channel. An advance copy may be submitted before the closing date.

What is the Educational Qualification for CSIR NPL Technician 2026?

The essential qualification is the same pattern for all 6 trade areas – candidates must fulfil any ONE of the following three options:

Option 1 (ITI Route): SSC/10th Standard or equivalent with Science subjects with minimum 55% marks + ITI certificate or national/state trade certificate in the relevant trade.

Option 2 (Apprentice Route): SSC/10th Standard or equivalent with Science subjects with minimum 55% marks + 2 years full-time apprentice training from a recognised institution in the relevant trade.

Option 3 (Work Experience Route): SSC/10th Standard or equivalent with Science subjects with minimum 55% marks + 3 years work experience in the relevant trade in a Ministry/Department/Organisation/PSU/Autonomous Body under the Government of India/State/UT.

Trade-wise Qualification:

Experience counted only after acquiring minimum essential qualification. Part-time, daily wages, visiting/guest faculty experience is NOT counted.

CSIR NPL Technician 2026 – Selection Process

The selection for CSIR NPL Technician (1) Recruitment 2026 will be done in the following stages:

Stage 1 – Screening by Screening Committee All applications will be scrutinised by a duly constituted Screening Committee. The Screening Committee will adopt its own criteria to shortlist candidates for the Trade Test.

Stage 2 – Trade Test (Qualifying in nature) Shortlisted candidates will be called for a Trade Test in the relevant trade/discipline. Only those who qualify the Trade Test will be invited for the Written Examination.

Stage 3 – Competitive Written Examination The written examination will consist of 3 papers.

CSIR NPL Technician 2026 Exam Pattern

The written examination is OMR-based or Computer-Based Objective Type (MCQ) with questions in both English and Hindi (except English Language questions). Standard: SSC + ITI / XIIth Standard.

Important: Paper-II and Paper-III will be evaluated only for candidates who secure minimum threshold marks in Paper-I. The minimum threshold (cut-off) marks for Paper-I will be notified on the CSIR-NPL website before the exam.

Merit List: Final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in Paper-II + Paper-III combined.

Tiebreaker (in order of preference):

  1. Higher marks in Concerned Subject/Trade paper
  2. Lesser negative marks in the trade paper
  3. Lesser negative marks across all merit papers
  4. Date of Birth (older candidate ranked higher)
  5. Earlier acquisition of essential degree
