Both papers are offline, pen-and-paper, objective-type (multiple choice), and set entirely in English. The written examination totals 500 marks, and qualifiers are called for a 100-mark Personality Test.
UPSC CMS 2026 Marking Scheme
- Each question has four alternative answers.
- One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer.
- Marking more than one answer to a question is treated as a wrong answer, even if one of the marked options is correct the same penalty applies.
- A question left blank/unattempted carries no penalty.

- Go to the “Examinations” or “What’s New” section on the homepage.
- Click the link for “Combined Medical Services Examination, 2026 – Provisional Answer Key.”
- Select and open the Paper I or Paper II PDF as needed.
- Download the PDF and match it against your response sheet / marked options.

How to Raise an Objection Against the UPSC CMS Answer Key 2026
UPSC accepts representations against the question paper and provisional answer keys only through its official online portal no email, post, or in-person submissions are entertained.
- Log in at upsconline.nic.in using your registered credentials.
- Go to “Examinations” and select “Representations on Question Paper & Provisional Answer Keys.”
- Choose the relevant question, paper, and reason for objection.
- Submit supporting justification where the portal allows it.
- Submit before the window closes 6:00 PM on the 7th day from the exam date. Nothing is entertained after this deadline.
