Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), a unit of Indian Railways, has released Employment Notice No. GMA/Rectt.&MPP/Sports Quota/2026-2027 dated 20-07-2026, inviting applications from eligible Indian National sportspersons for recruitment against Sports Quota (Open Advertisement and Talent Scouting) at CLW, Chittaranjan (West Bengal). A total of 25 vacancies are notified across Level-1, Level-2 and Level-5/4 posts, spanning 15 sports discipline/event categories including Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming and Shooting.
Applications open on 21-07-2026 and close on 20-08-2026 (extended to 31-08-2026 for candidates from specified North-Eastern and hill states/UTs and those residing abroad). There is no online application portal – candidates must apply by post or drop their application in the Drop Box at CLW. Selection is through Sports Trial, assessment of Sports Achievements, and Educational Qualification, at CLW, Chittaranjan.

CLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 has notified 25 vacancies across three pay levels: Level-5/4 (2 posts), Level-2 (8 posts) and Level-1 (15 posts). The discipline and event-wise breakup is given below.
Level-wise Total: Level-5/4 – 2 posts (GP Rs.2800/- & Rs.2400/-); Level-2 – 8 posts (GP Rs.1900/-); Level-1 – 15 posts (GP Rs.1800/-); Grand Total – 25 posts.

Applications are invited from eligible sportspersons who are Indian Nationals, for recruitment against Sports Quota (Open Advertisement and Talent Scouting) at CLW, Chittaranjan. Applicants should currently be an active player and should have fulfilled the sports achievement on or after 01-04-2024.
CLW Sports Quota Minimum Sports Norms
Categorization of International Championships
- Category A: Olympic Games (Senior)
- Category B: World Cup (Junior/Youth/Senior), World Championships (Junior/Senior), Asian Games (Senior), Commonwealth Games (Senior), Youth Olympics, Thomas/Uber Cup (Badminton)
- Category C: Commonwealth Championships (Junior/Senior), Asian Championships/Asia Cup (Junior/Senior), South Asian Federation (SAF) Games (Senior), USIC (World Railways) Championships (Senior), World University Games
Talent Scouting Quota
Candidates who have represented the country in the Olympics, or in any relevant Category-B Championship, or secured at least 3rd position in the relevant Category-B Championship within the last 6 months from the date of the notification, will be considered against the ‘Talent Scouting Quota’ without trials, wherever necessary, with relaxation of educational qualification wherever applicable (subject to para 6.3 of RBE 189(B)/2010). Only 3 such candidates, in order of overall merit and not necessarily of any particular discipline, will be considered for recruitment. If no such candidate is found suitable, all vacancies will be filled as per the norms and procedure of Open Advertisement.
Discipline-specific Sports Achievement Rules
- Archery: Only performance/achievements and certificates issued by recognized National/International Sports bodies, recognized by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), will be considered.
- Badminton: Sportspersons may also be considered on the basis of their current Annual All India Ranking, per the table below.
- Basketball: Basketball Federation of India is the only recognized National Sports Federation for the game, recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
- Football (Men): The condition of mandatory quota for Under-21 players in Santosh Trophy has been excluded.
- Golf (Men): Sportspersons with an I.G.U. ranking of 1–20, subject to a single handicap of less than 10 (in order of Merit/Amateur Merit list), are also eligible. The highest Annual All India Ranking in the year of recruitment may be considered. Selected players may play professional tournaments only after completing 5 years post-recruitment, with NOC from RSPB.
- Rifle Shooting: Only individual performance in the recognized championships listed above will be considered. The All India G.V. Mavlankar Shooting Championship is not a recognized championship for this purpose.
Badminton Annual All India Ranking Criteria
Only the current Annual All India Ranking is considered, and the highest ranking may be valid for one year for recruitment purposes. Ranking in Mixed Doubles is considered only in Badminton. World Ranking eligibility for Badminton is: Rs.2800/- or Rs.2400/- Grade Pay – Senior Singles up to 50th position, Junior Singles up to 30th position; Rs.2000/- or Rs.1900/- Grade Pay – Senior Singles up to 70th position, Junior Singles up to 50th position.
Junior National Championships Recognized by RSPB
For recruitment based on Sports Achievements in Junior National Championships, only the following age groups and championships are considered.
CLW Sports Quota Qualification
Candidates must possess the following educational qualifications as on the date of closure of the application:
Candidates appointed to Junior/Senior Clerk-cum-Typist posts must qualify a Typing Proficiency Test (30 w.p.m. in English or 25 w.p.m. in Hindi) within 4 years of appointment. Candidates with higher qualifications must produce the relevant original certificate at the time of Sports Trial; candidates awaiting final examination results of the prescribed qualification are not eligible and need not apply.
CLW Sports Quota Age Limit
The candidate should have a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 25 years of age as on 01-01-2026. Matriculation or an equivalent certificate from a recognized board must be submitted as date-of-birth proof. No age relaxation is allowed, even for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates.
Note: The “Invalid Applications” section of the same notification separately states that a candidate will be considered underage/overage “as on 01/01/2027.” This is an internal date inconsistency in the source notification – see Flag for Sila.
CLW Sports Quota Application Fee
The examination fee must be deposited through an Indian Postal Order (IPO) or Bank Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of “PFA, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works,” payable at Chittaranjan. Candidates claiming fee exemption must enclose a certificate proving eligibility for the relaxation, issued by an authorized authority, along with the application form.
CLW Sports Quota Salary
Pay is fixed at the minimum of the applicable scale for the relevant Level. All recruitment under this notice is at the minimum scale of pay.
CLW Sports Quota Selection Process
Selection is based on performance in Sports Trials, Educational Qualification and Sports Achievements, assessed and finalized by a nominated Selection Committee. Sports achievements of the current and previous 2 years (2024-2025, 2025-2026 & 2026-2027) are considered as per Para 4.2 of RBE No.189(B)/2010; only achievements on or after 01-04-2024 are counted, based on the concluding day of the championship. In the event that suitable candidates with the required sports achievements are not available for Level-5 posts as notified, candidates may also be considered in lower Group C categories to the extent of the notified posts, subject to overall suitability in the discipline.
The venue and date of Trials and Interview/Certificate Verification will be intimated to eligible candidates; candidates are advised to check the CLW official website regularly. Shortlisted eligible candidates will be called for:
- Trial of Sports Achievements – 40 marks (minimum 25 must be secured to be declared “FIT”)
- Assessment of Sports Achievements, etc. – 50 marks maximum
- Educational Qualification – 10 marks
Minimum aggregate marks required (including a minimum of 25 marks in Trial) are 70 for Level-5/4, 65 for Level-2, and 60 for Level-1 posts, as per RBE No.141/2018. There is no relaxation or reservation of any kind for any community – selection is purely merit-based on the performances described above.

How to Apply for CLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026
CLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 does not use an online application portal. Eligible candidates must apply offline as follows:
- Fill the application in the prescribed format (Annexure ‘A’), along with other relevant annexures, on good-quality A4-size white paper, after carefully reading the Employment Notice.
- Fill all columns of the application in your own handwriting, in English or Hindi, using a blue or black ball-point pen.
- Write the sample declaration statement in your own handwriting in the space provided; applications without the written declaration will be rejected.
- Affix one recent (taken within one month) colour passport-size photograph with a white background, without a cap or coloured glasses; send 2 signed photographs with the application and keep at least 5 more for future use.
- Enclose legible photocopies of all certificates – Educational Qualification, Age, Caste Certificate, and Sports Achievement certificates – attested by a Gazetted Officer or self-attested.
- Enclose the applicable application fee; applications without the fee or with incomplete columns will be rejected.
- Clearly indicate the Specific Category No., Sports Discipline and Event/Position as given in the vacancy table.
- Write on the top of the envelope: “APPLICATION AGAINST SPORTS QUOTA (OPEN ADVERTISEMENT & TALENT SCOUTING) RECRUITMENT FOR THE YEAR 2026-2027.”
- Send the application by post, or drop it in the Drop Box at the Dy.GM’s Office/CLW, so that it reaches the address below on or before the closing date and time. Railway Administration is not responsible for postal delay; late applications will be summarily rejected.

CLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Important Instructions
- Eligible applicants will be issued Call Letters through the website, email and the mobile number provided, within 20 days from the closing date; candidates must report with the Call Letter.
- SC/ST candidates are eligible for free rail travel in Second Class for attending the Sports Trial/Interview.
- Selected candidates must pass the requisite medical fitness standard prior to appointment.
- Candidates appointed as Junior Clerk-cum-Typist (Group C) must acquire typing proficiency of 30 w.p.m. in English or 25 w.p.m. in Hindi within 4 years of appointment; until then, the appointment remains provisional.
- The decision of CLW Administration in all matters relating to this recruitment is final.
- The list of applications rejected will be published on www.clw.indianrailways.gov.in; no other rejection intimation will be sent.
- The recruitment process is purely merit-based; canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
- CLW, Chittaranjan, reserves the right to cancel or modify the recruitment process at any time, without assigning reasons.
- The date, time and venue of the Sports Trial will be fixed by the Railway Administration and intimated on the CLW official website; the administration is not responsible for late or non-receipt of intimation.
